1994 Baja 38 Special. This is a great boat but not perfect. I would rather under sell it and have someone be pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. The only reason we are selling it is because we have 3 boats and I only put 4 hours on it the last 2 seasons combined. I bought the boat in 2010 and it needed everything- paint, interior, 1 block was cracked. It now looks amazing all white with a black transom newer interior and rebuilt engines.
I was an automotive tech for 25 years and then a tech at Performance Boat Center, eventual becoming the service manager for a while.... (read more) I was able to buy parts at a huge discount so no expense was spared.
The engines are upgraded to fuel injected gen 6 454 mags, roller cams, forged internals with only 280 hours on rebuilds. New rings, bearings, lifters, cams, oil pumps, timing set and more. I bought the heads as rebuilds and do not honestly remember what all was new. It has 24 pitch 4 blade stainless props.. I cruise at 40 to 45 mph, I have seen 61 on a perfect day, but runs 58 fairly regularly.
The interior is in great shape for being 9 years old. Custom stitched Baja logo on engine hatch. 2 bolsters and a bench seat in the back (not the U shaped seating). It has cockpit carpet but it is showing wear. The cabin interior is newer as well. The headliner and a few other odds and ends are original. It has a fridge, place for a microwave, a burner, hot water heater, (I have not used it in years) Vacuflush, shower, Ok stereo with amp and 8 Focal speakers. AC /heat, A Westerbeke 3.5 kw gen with only 85 hours. New battery charger. Trim tabs, and drive indicators a full cover, Bimini top, and more. Every thing has been serviced regularly down to the oil in the fuel pump/water pump housing.
I want to be open and let everyone know a little history. Before I bought it a hose came off of the water pump and the boat was partially under water. Not sunk but the tail end was in the drink. There was no water line or any signs of water past the lower part of the engine. The bottom was blistered. I sandblasted, and sprayed new Gelcoat to the waterline. I was always going to fill the dimples later but It actually gained about .5 mph, so I left it. (my theory is it creates small pockets of air for less drag on the hull) The lenses on the gauges are not in the best shape and the spedo has never worked. Overall I would give this boat a strong 7 out of 10. I have a trailer I will throw in if we make a deal but it is a POS and will need completely redone. It has not moved in years. Only trade I will consider is a triton with an outboard. I DO NOT NEED TO SELL. Average book is over $42k so it is priced to sell. NO LOW BALL OFFERS BUT CASH TALKS. I will have more pic of interior etc up soon.
